GRE Round Up for Mar. 17

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Howard Nemerov/Austin:
Fiction writer Janet Evanovich promotes anti-gun agenda

Daniel White/Cleveland:
Steve D. Jones/Fort Smith:
Recent gun news in the Arkansas-Oklahoma area

Liston Matthews/Knoxville:
Guns, unlike Chucky, can be tools for good or evil

John Longenecker/Los Angeles:
Safer Streets 2010: Los Angeles lecturing Starbucks.

John Pierce/Minneapolis:
National park carry in Minnesota

Dave Workman/Seattle:
Bellevue gun rights groups help form international alliance

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Go. Read. And please share the links.
You're doing that, right?

Well, Thank You Very Much

Lord knows I get my share of unkind ones...

The Day the Earth Stood Still

It used to take an advanced alien with a giant robot to lock everything up.

Now, in MA anyway, it seems a shotgun shell will do the trick.

A Righteous Shoot

A medical-marijuana activist survived a shootout with two men who broke into his Kirkland-area home early Monday, apparently to steal the pot he grows there. [More]

Practicing Moderation on St. Patrick's Day

From Russell S, via email:
I thought it might be appropriate to have an Irish Socialist explain what we're really up against:
For our demands most moderate are,
We only want the earth.

We're the Only Ones Sharing Recipes Enough

Calling guns in bars a "recipe for disaster," the state's police chiefs have pleaded with Gov. Bob McDonnell to veto legislation that would ease Virginia's concealed weapon laws.

Virginia Beach police Chief Jake Jacocks Jr. sent a letter to McDonnell last week on behalf of the state association of chiefs comparing the combination of firearms and alcohol with drinking and driving. [More]
Well, of course he did. Because the recipe doesn't call for putting him in the same pot:

Hey, we all know they can handle alcohol better than us, right? It goes with the general superiority?

Just ask Anthony Abbate (if you dare to step in and drag him off that girl half his size). Or since we're talking Virginia establishments and exempting feds, too, why not see what Joseph Armento has to say?

Y'know, if we're really serious about this, we'd best just ban guns in the home, where many gun owners also keep beer, wine and liquor, where emotions are known to run high in the course of daily life, and where many incidents of hidden domestic violence occur! For the children! "Only Ones" exempted, of course.

Maybe if they veto this, the governor and the chiefs can share a few laughs at their subjects over some drinks. Then go out in the parking lot and maybe see who's tougher.

Firing Back

We talked about this here and here.

Looks like the citizen isn't going to stand for this mistreatment and abuse and is doing what he can to keep it from happening to anyone else.

Good man.

The Right to Face One's Accusers

Let's see--one kicks out on the "prohibited persons" list and is facing charges, and the other is his girlfriend who lied in an official police investigation...[Read]

Nope, no reason to doubt a strong case here...

Gun Magazines Banned by Military in Iraq?

This is, as Mad Ogre says, "most disturbing":
I just left the PX here on my COB here in Iraq. I just happened to run into the gal stocking the magazine rack, and asked her why there haven't been any gun rags lately. To which she responded that they were not allowed to sell gun rags anymore because they can't accept the liability. [Read]
Sorry, I can't figure out how to link to specific date posts so this goes to the main site. It's the 3/16/10 entry if you happen to read this after it cascades down the page.

Can anyone confirm this? I sent the link to my editor at GUNS Magazine and asked if he's heard anything, and will advise if he has.

If it turns out to be more than a misunderstanding, the next step will be to find out who issues such a ridiculous and offensive directive and turn up the heat.

Time for Some Affirmative Actions?

An appeals court on Tuesday threw out the convictions of two Montana men with American Indian heritage after ruling their bloodlines and affiliations did not merit prosecution under the law that establishes federal jursidiction [sic] over serious crimes on tribal lands. [More]
That opens up all kinds of interesting possibilities...

Nah. I'm sure if anyone with real power felt endangered, they'd call it a "loophole" and close it pronto.

Can Health Care Bill Still Endanger Gun Owners?

While machinations by President Obama, House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid to pass federal "health care" dominate the headlines, one aspect of the legislation virtually unnoticed by the "Authorized Journalist" mainstream press is the potential effect it can have on gun owners. That's what I examine in "A Healthy Republic Needs More Than Guns," my May 2010 "Rights Watch" column for GUNS Magazine. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column offers a prognosis of sorts.

Also win a gun, meet a dissatisfied customer and tune in to my next Trigger Sports LIVE! appearance, which would be today at Noon PST.

This Day in History: March 17

On March 17, 1778, four days after a French ambassador informed the British government that they had officially recognized the United States as an independent nation with the signing of The Treaty of Alliance and The Treaty of Amity and Commerce, England declared war on France directly engaging them in the American Revolutionary War.
