GRE Round Up for May 11

There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Rob Reed/Detroit:
Michigan State Police report shows about 1 in 43 state residents has a CPL

Steve D. Jones/Fort Smith:
Open carry and the elite media of Oklahoma

Dave Workman/Seattle:
Charges, more revelations in Port Orchard slaying

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Satire about anti-gun 'terrorism' hysteria almost too true for humor

Go. Read. And please share these links.

You're doing that, right?

A Snitch in Time

Securing the blessings of Liberty..."Only Ones"-style. [Read]

What does it tell you about the character of people who would resort to these lying, sneaky tactics?

I must live a sheltered life, because I just don't know anyone on a personal basis who exhibits such character traits. Perhaps it's why I've never been attracted to go into "public service."

Meanwhile, Over with the Heirs of the Western Reserve Pioneers...

Squirrel traps family in their home [Read]
But lest we be too harsh in our assessment of the timid Strongsvilleans:
Except as provided in subsections (c) and (d) hereof, no person shall discharge any air gun, rifle, shotgun, revolver, pistol or other firearm, or make use of any sling or arrow, within the corporate limits of the Municipality.
Nah, go ahead and be judgmental. Section (c)'s got 'em covered. Unless they'd rather be ruled by rodents.

None of you people have a Crossman...?

We're the Only Ones Justified, Reasonable and Legal Enough

A report from the San Bernardino County district attorney says a police officer who fatally shot a 23-year-old bystander at a pizzeria was legally justified. [More]
Y'know, I'm starting to see Chief James' concern about "officer safety."

This does seem like the simplest solution.

I mean, "fearing for her life" Corporal Lisner did make it home at the end of her shift...

Why else even have "Only Ones"...?

We're the Only Ones (and You're Not) Enough

A man shot by an off-duty FBI agent along scenic Tantalus Drive yesterday afternoon was out on bail after allegedly posing as a police officer at the University of Hawai'i last week. [More]
First the fake Census workers, then the fake deputies and now this...well, they say things come in threes. Like "spates."

Fortunately, there was a real "Only One" on hand.

I say "fortunately," because the Aloha State is "may issue," meaning they may not. And isn't this interesting:
In Hawaii, carry is allowed with a permit, but is restricted to "On Duty, In Uniform" and one's employer must register through a local police department. Generally, uniformed security personnel and armored couriers are granted permits.
You mean "Magnum P.I." was fiction...?

Every Other Implement

The XM25 is the deadliest hand weapon in the army arsenal. Why? Because it can fire 25mm rounds that explode at any distance set by the soldier, killing people protected behind walls or trenches. [More]
For government use only, naturally.

What do you think, Mr. Coxe?
Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American... [T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.
Oh, yeah, but you don't understand.

Things are different now.

Highly Valued Rights

The city stands to lose two of its most highly valued rights. [More]
The right to ignore the Constitution, where it says "states" get representatives?

And the right to ignore the Bill of Rights, where it says "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"?

Those highly valued rights?

Back to the Future

A hundred years from now, historians and sociologists will look back on these times and puzzle over the right’s utter fanaticism over firearms. [More]
Not necessarily.

History is written by the victors.

Perhaps your concern, Cynthia Tucker, should be on how the role played by slavery-enablers like you will be remembered...

Derval Implores

Damn.

For a second there I thought it said "implodes." [Read]

Won't you help make sure "Only Ones" are the only ones who can have machine guns?

Especially since the incident DP's doing his blood dance in involved a "legal" collector, didn't it? Mustn't it have...?

And especially especially since the other incident cited involved...uh...this guy.

We're the Only Ones Showing You Our Stinking Badges Enough

Two men posing as sheriff's officers robbed a home in the township early this morning, police said. [More]
On the bright side, at least they weren't fake Census workers...

Down for the Count?

Man killed in home invasion after suspect poses as census worker [More]
And oh, look:
"They were looking for money and my aunt gave them everything that they had and it wasn’t enough for them," Johnson said.
So they took the satisfied Rapex customer advice and gave them what they wanted.

Hmm. Guess that wasn't enough.

So I guess the appropriate response will be one of caution.

How do "Only Ones" do it, at least until they're sure it's safe for them...?

We're the Only Ones with the Right Idea Enough

James, however, says there's another group of private citizens who have the wrong idea about the Second Amendment. It's a growing movement around the Bay Area, California and the country. It's called "open carry," and participants openly carry unloaded firearms in public. [More]
Because as a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and militias, we just can't have people actually, you know, carrying guns.

That's just wrong.

Officer safety comes first, you see. They're taught that from "day one at the academy."
“By far, the survey of membership was ‘ban it completely.’ It just makes it simpler,” James said.
Ah yes, to secure the blessings of LEO simplicity--there's a reason to form a government.

Besides, who do these upstarts think they are? "Only Ones"?

What are Elena Kagan's Views on Second Amendment?

By way of comparison, her position appears practically identical to that of "conservative Justice" Antonin Scalia. [More]
That says a lot about "conservative Justices" these days, does it not?

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at the Supreme Court nominee's own words.

Also, finally, I have a video of my April 19 speech in DC. I posted part one today.

This Day in History: May 11

On May 11, Potter returned from his leave of absence and Lacey was relieved of his command of the Pennsylvania militia. At the insistence of Washington, Lacey remained with the militia for a short time in order to familiarize Potter with the region. By June, the British had withdrawn from Philadelphia, and the militia's safeguarding of the region was no longer of concern to Washington. [More]
