Democrats bypass checks and balances to halt open gun carry law in Mississippi

The partisan convergence between Democrat factions in the legislative, executive and judicial branches here to impede and overturn a bill lawfully enacted by the representatives of the whole people hardly ensures the protections they are supposed to be guaranteed by both the Mississippi and United States Constitutions. Three from Constitution Watch

Hey, around here, that's a "spate."

H.R. 2541: To allow certain off-duty law enforcement officers and retired law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm to protect children in a school zone.

Because everyone is freer when we have more "Only Ones." Thanks, Republicans!

H.R. 2567: To require that all handguns manufactured, sold in, or imported into, the United States incorporate technology that precludes the average five year old child from operating the handgun when it is ready to fire.

Subversive Speier and the Democrats. Figures. What did I warn about all those years ago?
Unless a drooling moron can hold the gun in his toes and gnaw on the barrel and yank back on the trigger with his (presumably opposable) thumbs in utter and oblivious tranquility, it must be banned.
H.R. 2566: To modify the definition of armor piercing ammunition to better capture its capabilities.

Speier and the Democrats again. Evidently, because no text is available yet, it's safe to assume if it penetrates armadillo armor, it's verboten.

Don'tcha just love the way these last two have "Constitutional Authority Statements" and they just blanket refer to Article 1 Section 8?  And wouldn't you just love to see someone who knows ammo grill this ignorant  c-word on camera to produce another "shoulder thing that goes up" moment?

Elon's Belgian Waffle

So, your outrage and indignation aside Elon, what did Ann Coulter say in the video that was demonstrably wrong? [More]

I've been saying for years that the millions of members in the NRA, arguably the most armed-to-the-teeth civilian population on the planet, are responsible for fewer homicides and have a lower violent "gun crime" rate than gun-free Japan, to the point where it is statistically negligible. That should prove for all to see it's not the guns, it's the individuals. Anyone care to prove me wrong with valid data?

I understand why the point Coulter raises makes everyone uncomfortable - "R" is the new Scarlet Letter, even though we see it is pervasive in the very quarters that condemn it. Those of us who see how the concept of racism has been so cheapened and devalued by those who exploit it  are no longer afraid.  In truth, the biggest puzzler for me is why victims of real racism aren't out there chastising the opportunistic hustlers.

The problem with boiling things down to race is it obscures root causes. It's cultural. People raised in an environment based on honoring principles of liberty and responsibility are going to reflect social values and behaviors different from those raised in a government dependency environment.

That this so often manifests itself along racial lines tells us much that society as a whole is afraid to address, which suits those moving the chess pieces and pulling the strings just fine.

Too Many Emails, Too Many Tips

I can't keep up with them all.  Slow it down, please?

Truth be known, I'm on all kinds of lists, I visit all the major websites, and generally know about stories before I get individual tips -- and often get dozens sending me links to the same story every day. And I can just never get to them all.

I appreciate the enthusiasm.  Thank you for your participation. But please:  A dozen or more emails from the same person every day times dozens of people, and I'm sorry, but there is only one of me. That I give credit links and email back the link as a regular practice add to the demands on time. That actually keeps me from being able to present more commentary where it can do the most good.

I've been pondering for some time on the best way to say this without seeming like a miserable ingrate, and decided the best way is to just state how it is, figuring reasonable people and friends will understand and want to help. If you do, the best way is to share my GRE links. I see Mike did a post about that the other day, and while it caught me by surprise, he didn't say anything I haven't been thinking about, and talking to close friends about.

Until I make a decision though, please understand if I don't acknowledge all emails and social media messages.  I feel bad about it, because anyone who takes time out of their life to reach out to me deserves a reply.

Incomplete Nature gun article correction puts agenda over truth

It’s unfortunate that Nature's editors were deliberately indifferent to all of the needed corrections, leaving their readers with wrong information that could have been easily set straight. And it’s telling that absent from their coverage of “gun studies” is any acknowledgment of criminal violence being deterred and lives being saved through defensive gun uses. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report exposes illogical assumptions, muddled thinking, carelessness and indifference to the truth where most people would least expect them -- in the scientific literature.  What do you expect from people who can't even accurately quote my blog, and who then address me as "Dr"?

Welcome to the Present

This fight will be won or lost by the way women perceive guns. [Watch]

Sorry, but that assumes a ruling or an edict will be enough to prompt surrender. This fight  will be won or lost based on willingness of serious people who understand the core purpose behind the Second Amendment to go to the wall and beyond.

I hear the "self defense" argument and the "shooting sports/fun" argument, but I'm not hearing the "women also need to claim their place in the whole people's militia" argument.

That's their liberating (and truly progressive) choice, too.

I agree that oafs shouldn't be condescending and presumptuous. And I welcome all people becoming aware and jealous of their rights, and acknowledge there's no one-size-fits-all best way to become introduced to and immersed in them.

But we can't talk full enfranchisement for women and leave out any mention of the reason for the right in the first place.  Welcome to the present, sisters. We're going to need your skill, judgment, counsel, courage and resolve.

Turn 'em In, Mr. and Mrs. Citadel?

I've intentionally steered clear of criticizing the Citadel, I've been entirely silent on the associated III Arms project, and I've basically avoided public comment about the irreconcilable differences between Mike and Kerodin. While I have weighed in a couple times on anonymous comments taunting Mike about dying, my point there was about the type of character who would do such a thing and was unrelated to their motivation. Incidentally, I've also not allowed anonymous comments attacking Kerodin to appear on this site, including comments by trolls pretending to be him.

It's no secret I am good friends with Mike, but that's not relevant to my personal assessment of this entire endeavor, at least I try my best not to let it be. Having looked at their publicly-revealed plans, I've determined it's not for me, but the reasons why are unimportant for this discussion. If your informed decision is that this is a place you'd like to invest in, I wish you well.  Peaceable people paying their own freight have the right to live wherever and under whatever conditions they choose.

I'd have probably maintained silence, except the whole thing just got a big boost from Glenn Beck, making it newsworthy and noteworthy, and I have an observation I don't see anyone else making that I think merits further explanation and discussion.

Go to 12:56 in the first video, listen to Beck's question and to the answer he gets.

Q:
Idaho says -- no more open carry. No more even having a gun in the house, we're going to go ahead and do that. What happens then?

A:
The laws of the land will be followed, Idaho as well as the federal laws. Even laws that we believe are unconstitutional. We are not looking to pick a fight with anybody. We would do the best we can to make sure those laws don't pass.
Idaho being unlikely to pass such edicts notwithstanding, since one of the reasons people are attracted to the Citadel in the first place is as protection against SHTF scenarios, and since government has a documented proclivity for exploiting emergencies to impose total control, I think this is appropriate to explore further.

To that end, I'll entertain name-calling-free comments on the specific point raised in the Q&A. Note I'm not interested in assessments of the project itself or of the personalities involved. If the principals don't want to have this discussion here because my being friends with Mike makes me a suspect broker, I'd encourage them to have it somewhere more to their liking.

Alamo, Washington

A coalition of Washington firearms community leaders is today launching a grassroots campaign to counter the well-financed gun control initiative backed by a Seattle-based gun control group, while also preventing firearms confiscation “by any government agency…without due process.” ... Bloomberg on Parade

His armed bodyguard was sentenced to seven years for attempted murder.

His AstroTurf  bus tour group is calling the Boston bomber a victim of gun violence.

This guy is like a gift.

One thing I want to caution everyone to be careful of is following false leads to where the next bus tour stop will be--unless you can validate it with an email from the No More Names/MAIG group, I'm seeing signs that some with an agenda may be spreading disinformation to send gun activists on wild goose chases.

The best way to validate is to sign up for notification yourself (noting which states the bus will tour to).

National Guard vs Militia: A Graphic Argument

Tony Wilson created a graphic from today's GRE that may prove useful in chasing liars up a tree and leaving them hanging.

Laws discriminate against sex as well as age in Illinois FOID case

Females are clearly being discriminated against by federal law, as they are excluded from recognition as members of the unorganized militia on the basis of sex. That such a law would withstand challenge is doubtful without a redefinition of militia composition to recognize the realities of the role women are capable of and entitled to. That this law has been allowed to stand as written for so long, and that no bill has been introduced to recognize discriminatory exclusions that can be used to deny standing to women, is a discussion Gun Rights Examiner hopes to start with this column. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report starts a national dialogue on the composition of the "unorganized militia" that needs to end with a revision to U.S. Code.  Which politician will have the guts to introduce a bill, and how will those who oppose it justify such blatant, gender-based discrimination?

Too Much, the Magic Bus

Just received this email from Mack H:
Bloomberg bus arriving at Va. Tech, Blacksburg, VA, Friday 6/21 9:30AM‏

From some of my emails:

Fwd: The number to call is 212-788-2439 for a ticket to attend.

I just called that number to "get a ticket", and was told that no ticket is necessary - event is open to the public, and in a public venue, near the B-burg police station. I was advised that I could bring family, friends & neighbors... "to get the public out in force". We should be there in force too, and to hand out GSL stickers!

Well then, Bloomberg is coming to our backyard. Thought you should know.
I called the number too--it sounded like a private number as the woman answered by saying "Hello."  She confirmed no tickets were needed.

I'd like to see some further confirmation from others in the 24060 - 63 zip code area, just to make sure no one is setting up wild goose chases -- I mean, the antis wouldn't lie, would they?  I'd like to see an actual forwarded MAIG email from someone whose 2A cred can be validated.

You all know how to sign up and everybody has, right?

UPDATE: Discussion here.  One thing I'm getting from this is they may be doing these things within 1,000 feet of schools wherever they can...

I still need to see an actual MAIG email.   Otherwise, my suspicion will be they're trying to send pro-gunners off chasing their tails.
