I trust this surprises no one:
What does the chief of police in East St. Louis think of the Chicago mayor’s idea to cut down on illegal gun trading in Illinois by creating a $65 per year fee for handgun registry? KMOX News asked Michael Floore, and here’s what he said, ” I think it’s a great idea. Maybe it will help us cut down on crime.”

To be fair, East St. Louis hasn't had an honest government since Lewis and Clark passed through. The village of Alorton (google "most corrupt town in the country") abuts ESL, and there's not much difference between the two.
